Polar Plunge 2/13/2010
An annual event on Pickerel Lake every February (2nd weekend) come
and watch what happens when a bunch of people from northern
wisconsin get together early in the day on a frozen lake!
People come by plane, snowmobile, 4 wheeler, or truck. Parking is on
the lake or on the road (if you can find a spot there) Take the
plunge into the lake (hey bring your swim shorts or bikini) or watch
the snowmobiles jump across the open water (yes, some don't make it
and the machines get wet!) platforms for scoring from the crowd are
pulled in by 4 wheelers. It gets a (little) wet, but that's why some
bring coolers (to stand on) It's an adventure at any temperature!
This year, the ice on the lake was over 2 feet thick. Food and
beer/soda tents are out on the ice and raffle for a new snowmobile,
4 wheeler, or cash prize on 3pm Saturday. The big plunge takes place
around noon.
